John started taking snare drum lessons when he was 12 and got his first Drum set at the age of 14. By High School he was in the Band Middle of the Road and after graduation in 1983 formed Apparition with Donnie Root.John would play with Donnie Root again.
On a Monday one summer night in 2001, John received a call from Donnie asking him to play a gig with Steve, that Saturday. After a Friday practice John played that Saturday night and never left.
